Announcing ReCulturing
Biweekly insights on designing & leading an intentional life, personally & professionally
Welcome~This Is It
This is the first biweekly post on my reflections about designing and living a more intentional life, personally and professionally. My book, ReCulturing, launched in 2022 and it has resonated with a lot of leaders who want to design and strengthen their work and personal cultures. I am not ready to write another book yet (I had writer’s block after the launch but more on that later), but I have been craving a medium to write authentically about what I am learning as a leader inside the organizational system and in the world. I tried newsletters, but that felt too contrived. I left Twitter (like everyone else). I like Instagram, but I spent too much time on it and did not feel connected to any real community. So,
this is it.
If you subscribed to my newsletters, I brought you over here. You can cancel anytime.
Why~To Practice with You
Why ReCulturing? I described in my book that organizational culture had lost its meaning. Culture is not something we have but something we do—it’s an active leadership practice. It’s turning values like health into behaviors like going to the gym consistently and practicing that routine five days a week. It’s setting up processes like getting a trainer or putting workout clothes on the side of the bed so those are the first things to put on in the morning.
And so, my definition of ReCulturing is the continuous act of redesigning and reconnecting behaviors, processes, and practices to each other and to the organizational system. Although I literally wrote the book on culture, I still face those daily challenges that get in the way of me practicing and living my personal and professional cultures. I will share how I learn through those challenges, and hopefully hear your ideas, too.
Who~My Journey
I lead organizational and talent development inside a global tech company. You can read the details of that journey on LinkedIn. I am also an author, a writer, a wife, a sister, and an Auntie to 16 nieces and nephews. Aspiring athlete, yogi, and meditator are in there somewhere, too. I have been on a lifelong quest to integrate all of these identities into my weekly practices. My purpose is to design systems to help people become better at work and in the world. My values are: health, impact, freedom, and learning. Writing this blog is a practice that is consistent with both my purpose and values. I hope I can inspire you to create practices that also align with your purpose and values.
What~The System
As with every good thing in life that you want to stick, you need a good system: a support system of friends (thank you
for the gentle nudge to get me over here) and a system of behaviors, practices, and processes that will set you up for success. Since Wednesdays seem to be the day when our systems start to fall apart for the week, I will be sending this out every other Wednesday at 8 AM PT. Maybe I can remind you that we all get off track and there is still time to regroup to have a great week. I’ll be sharing:Lessons from the inside of an organization, leading a global team focused on developing both the organization and the employees in a fast-paced system
Reflections on my own cultural system: my values, behaviors, processes, and practices that help me live an intentional life
